I was so honored to be part of the Kingston Design Connection and Habitat for Humanity's annual show house 2024!
The Ulster County Habitat for Humanity builds 4 homes a year in the Ulster Co area for qualifying families to address the daunting affordable housing crisis. They help families achieve the strength and self-reliance they need to build a better future. Kingston Design Connection is a non-profit with the main goal of bringing together Hudson Valley vendors, designers, and home contractors.
Habitat and KDC have joined forces for the second time to create a designer show house, that benefits all parties- interior designers get to showcase their work and Habitat for Humanity gains more traction that is so rightly needed.
The designers are giving one room in a finished Habitat House and can do what they want, minus changing paint colors and taking down walls. They must also use items from the local Ulster Habitat for Humanity thrift store, Restore (no problem there since I’m there on the weekly anyway- they have such amazing finds!). I was given the living room and being the first room off the front door, I felt the pressure to really make an impression. I fell in love with a particular couch from Restore that can lovingly read “Granny”, but I knew I could make it shine like it once did. I paired it with darker colors and more modern elements (stripes!) to bring said Granny sofa into 2024. And being a show house where everyone breaks the rules in terms of home functionality, I took out the entryway closet to create a dry bar! Because, well, why not have that moment??!!
I’m really grateful to have been picked to do this. If you’ve haven’t had a chance to check out your local Habitat for Humanity ReStore, do so now! They have many locations across the country and honestly, I have found so many gems ranging from art to really great furniture that is now in my own home.
From my concept to creation, below.
