Kingston Design Connection 2024 ShowHouse

Updated: Nov 13

Kingston Design Connection invited me to design the back porch for their annual Showhouse, which launched this past October. You might remember I designed the living room for the Habitat for Humanity showhouse last June. Consider this showhouse the big sister of that one. The Kingston Design Showhouse is where designers can really let their imaginations run wild- no clients to please! :-)

For the porch design, my vision immediately centered around three words: cozy, warm, and escape. I imagined this porch as a serene retreat—a space where you can sip tea while basking in the beauty of the backyard and watching the leaves gently fall. It's where an impromptu glass of wine with a close friend feels like an indulgent escape from the everyday chaos.

To bring this vision to life, I teamed up with the incredibly talented muralist Marcie Paper, whose whimsical, hand-painted floor pattern became the true showstopper. The entire design unfolded around her creation. I chose soft blacks and neutral tones to harmonize the home's exterior, while modern, curvy pieces from Perch Objects aded the contemporary touch without overpowering the natural beauty of the space.

Incorporating a blend of vintage and modern elements was key to making this space feel uniquely personal. From the curated antique accents to the sleek, contemporary furnishings, each piece was selected to create a balance between timeless charm and fresh, modern style. I also made custom throw pillows using beautiful fabrics generously donated by Revolution Fabrics. I dusted off my trusty sewing machine and got to work, crafting cozy pillows that add warmth and comfort to the design.
