A little kitchen with a lot of intention. 🚰

Part of our Uptown Kingston project, this space was transformed from a once closed-off room into a refined, highly functional green kitchen. We opened up the layout, added a dedicated pantry, and designed an oak petite island that doubles as a breakfast nook.

Thoughtful details, rich color, and smart planning prove that great design isn’t about square footage, it’s about how a space lives. One of my favorite kitchens to date oh and the clients are the most amazing and wonderfully kind I hope they invite me to dinner sometime soon😉😉❤️

Loving where this basement living room design is headed!

The cool color of the seafoam velvet sofa sets the tone, so I layered in warm colors, soft textures, and modern accents to balance it out and make the space feel cozy and intentional- not at all like a basement.

Taking a moment this Friday afternoon to thank the universe for allowing me to do what I love every single day. I’m super grateful for the amazing clients (like these dream clients who color drenched their guest room pink as per my suggestion!) who trust me with their homes and my family who cheers me on through every project.

I knew I wanted blue in the bedroom. I had a swatch taped to the wall for upwards of a year so blue was definitely it. But when it came time to actually paint the room, I was glad I put actual paint on the walls themselves to really see how they would look.

To my surprise, my first pick leaned too dark and although the room gets plenty of north facing light, I didn’t want to be waking up in a cave. So I veered lighter.

This warm, soft blue does not read
“Little boy blue”. It reads sophisticated, serene, and truly gorgeous. Paired with all the wood tones in our room (and especially paired with my @tarynurushido piece that I cherish so much) it really is perfection.

Doors, trim, ceiling are all wrapped in this gorgeous blue. And I couldn’t be happier. If you’re wary of color drenching, don’t be. I promise you won’t regret drenching a room and you may even wonder why you didn’t do it sooner.

I didn’t want schluter trim (metal trim along the edges of tile) and I didn’t want bullnose joining the edges of tile. I wanted the tile mitered. This being three years ago, my GC had always relied on trim to edge tile but was up for a challenge..

The result is the perfect mitered shower niche that I love. No fussy trim, no metal to add an unnecessary texture- just a clean, perfectly mitered tile edge to make this girl happy. 😃

Thanks to my nephews girlfriend we found a little flea market in Cape Cod while on vacation! Fun finds include vintage mugs (a weakness for me), a colorful duck vase and a beautiful little painting made by a 93 yr old woman from the Cape. 🎨

From Willy Ghul planters to vintage chaise loungers I wanted, there were so many great sites at @brimfield.antique.flea.market . While those first objects did not come home with me, I did manage to get some goodies that will find homes with clients or myself 😀

Things I did manage to bring back include adorable black nesting tables, Picasso art prints, some vintage ceramics, white rockers (that I may paint black), and my favorite- a Mexican sculpture of a mom and her kiddo.

Let this be your reminder to shop antique. Not only is it better for our Mother Earth, but it ads those layers into a home that makes everything so interesting!

This big, dated living space needed some love. Since it was large enough for both a living room and dining area, I leaned into that and defined the two zones. The dining table now sits by a new slider that overlooks the pond, while the TV area faces the tall pines surrounding the house. The result feels cozy but totally connected to nature.

Something unusual for me—I skipped window treatments. The house is super secluded, and with all that warm wood paneling, adding more texture felt like overkill (IMPO!).

A low-slung leather sofa, extra-large dining table, and painted brick fireplace bring in the modern touches, while vintage accessories and art give it soul.

I love this space. It’s calm, cozy, and hearing the pond with the slider open? Unreal.

A $10 painting at my local antique dealer turned into a little statement in my bathroom.

Something about the colors and lake subject really, really spoke to me when I saw this little painting last week. I was going to frame it but since it already had a punched hole in the top.. I got some chiffon ribbon and a nail and… done!

I think it looks perfect placed above our medicine cabinets. Art doesn’t have to be expensive to look amazing! Am I right??

I turn to wood and darker accessories to add that much needed texture and depth. Wooden countertop stools from @industrywest and a mix of modern and vintage accessories bring some life into this kitchen.

How do you photograph a room with no natural light? Seriously, asking for a friend 😂

I’ve been told I don’t use a ton of color in my interiors and it’s true- I’m selective in my color and prefer to add color via accessories. But for little rooms (and bedrooms) I say all bets are off. Little rooms, such as powder rooms, I say go bold and color drench with paint or wallpaper every surface to add the element of fun. I wasn’t able to wallpaper my powder room but I did color drench with a very saturated green. It’s energizing, rich, fun and cozy and I love it!

Where do I find the best vintage mirrors? Marketplace and thrift stores. I have a healthy obsession with good, antique mirrors-I collect them for myself and for my clients. Not only do they add interest (aka character) but also bounce light around a room and I can’t see any problem in that.

Type in “vintage mirror” in marketplace and see what comes up near you. I bet you find a gem!

Since moving into our blank canvas of a home a year and a half ago, I’ve been slowly layering in some much-needed character.

I recently found these incredible vintage mirror sconces at a local shop, and they’ve finally found their spot—right in the entryway to our primary bedroom. Now that they’re up, I can’t stop imagining what paint color would work best here. Initially, I was thinking of carrying the soon-to-be French blue from the bedroom into this space, but now I’m feeling like it deserves its own moment.

What color would you choose for this little entryway? I’d love to know!!

Work in progress on a clients home….

I’ve worked with existing art here, and what was once a slightly gaudy mirror was totally transformed—simply by leaving out the mirror! It was removed during a move, and I realized the frame looked way better as is. A frame as art, it works perfectly in this corner and adds much-needed interest to a wall dominated by a large TV.

Now, about TVs. Yes, they’re often considered an eyesore (I get it!), but I’m also a realist. We watch TV, and most people have one in their main living space—totally fine. The key? Balance it out. If there’s space, add more art to the wall to create interest and shift the focus. Thoughts?

A cozy, warm escape. I imagined this porch as a serene retreat—a space where you can sip tea while basking in the beauty of the backyard and watching the leaves gently fall. It’s where an impromptu glass of wine with a close friend feels like an indulgent escape from the everyday chaos.

I was so happy to design the back porch for the latest @kingston.design.connection Showhouse!
 To bring this vision to life, I teamed up with the incredibly talented muralist @marciepaper , whose whimsical, hand-painted floor pattern became the true showstopper. The entire design unfolded around her creation. I chose soft blacks and neutral tones to harmonize with the home’s exterior, while modern, curvy pieces from @perch_objects add a contemporary touch without overpowering the natural beauty of the space.

Incorporating a blend of vintage and modern elements is a signature of my design style. From the curated antique accents to the sleek, contemporary furnishings, each piece was selected to create a balance between timeless charm and fresh, modern style, giving the space a uniquely personal feel.

While I’ve always been involved in the design world, my first true venture into interior design was my parents’ main bathroom, maybe 8-9 years ago. I didn’t handle every detail, but I did choose the tile, suggested exposing the beams, and advised on the color palette.

Even after eight years, I still believe the tile looks great, especially alongside the more rustic elements of the beautiful old house. Remember the encaustic tile craze a while back??

My mom is moving out of the house since my dad passed last year. Fingers crossed the buyers appreciate this gem of a bathroom. ♥️

This Catskill mountains kitchen was totally functional but, let’s face it, ugly. It needed warmth and some fun injected into it. Here’s what I did-

•Replaced the generic island light with fun, globe pendants @colorcord
•Removed one area of uppers and replaced with thick cut walnut shelves
•Replaced the above-the-oven microwave with a real vent hood
•Created a coffee bar station in a vacant corner of the kitchen
•Painted over the drab, grey kitchen island base with black
•Painted one wall @benjaminmoore Alligator Alley, inspired by the lush green property full of pines trees
•Replaced the 80’s door
•Added accessories- antique oil painting, vintage glassware, plates and ceramics, kitchen rug, black wicker counter stools, etc

I think the end result exudes much more charm & hospitality and is much more visually interesting. Don’t you agree??

I’m absolutely floored by this work of art in our bedroom. 🤩

I’m so honored to have a piece by friend and uber talented @tarynurushido . I have a little piece of Taryn’s but it was one of my goals to have a large installation by her once we moved. I commissioned this piece and when she came to install it this week, I was like a kid on Christmas morning waiting to see it unwrapped.

It’s huge. Its giant. It’s the focal point in our room and
I knew there was a reason I didn’t paint yet..🤔 This piece, this art is going to dictate my room design. I’m already thinking French blue walls.. stay tuned for how it turns out.

Fun fact- this is Manila rope wrapped in leather strip crochet. The leather is from my past handbag collections and is an untreated veg tan that will patina with age. Can’t wait to see the piece evolve over time.

Taryn is an amazing woman and I’m so happy to have her as a good friend. We had a blast while she was here and thanks, girl, for a great night out 😉

Little self plug here for this Friday.. our Catskills home is now hosted by yours truly and available for new bookings. Previously hosted by a property manager, since we began this journey while still in Brooklyn, it’s now managed by myself and I’m thrilled to be interacting with guests directly. 👋

While we still have some things we want to do on it, we spent most of 2022 renovating it and turning it into what we envisioned. I’m sure guests will see the love we poured into it. One of our favorite things is spending time up here and I’m excited for others to experience that as well ♥️

Have an empty corner? Why not add dry bar? 🍸✨ Figure out if a simple shelf or cabinet may do and then skip the big box stores- head to your local thrift for everything including mini cabinets and vintage glassware. Add colorful decanters filled with your favorites to really add the character. Art, mirror and a possible mini lamp or sconce and you’ve got yourself a little bar vignette that anyone would love to pour a drink at!

It was a miracle I found a vintage runner long enough. Seriously, one of my favorite things is vintage/antique shopping. Not for clothes (I have to be in the right mindset to do that) but for the home. I’m sure we all have our favorite stores- I especially do when shopping for myself or clients. One of my favorite antique stores had a basket of these handmade runners, one in particular that was extra long. Perhaps even long enough to extend the hallway in our mountain home. It was. It was also such a great pop of color that the hallway needed (I secretly love plaid) so in it went and I love it!

We sleep in the smallest room in our Catskills house. It gets no real sunlight and I really didn’t want to make it something it wasn’t. So I went all in and created more darkness to really amp up that cozy/dreamy feel. I may change it in the future but for now, the room really sets the mood when 😴 is near. Jackie sure agrees with me 🐕.

I’ll be doing some minor little updates to our Catskill mountain house since we’ll be here for the month of July.

First up.. what to do in this empty corner that is only inhabited by an amazing vintage mirror. I’m not one to throw anything up on a wall. I’d rather take my time finding the right pieces while having an empty wall. When I found this amazing nude lithograph at the @ulsterhabitatrestore thrift, I knew pairing it with a little candle sconce was the right fit.

Make those vignettes! Group objects in uneven numbers to keep things interesting and don’t be afraid of making little vignettes around your house. It’s fun, a good exercise in creativity and chances are you have objects lying around your house that you can work with. Or go thrifting like I always do! 🖤
